PPS and Solo: what they mean and how payouts work
At NushyPool you can mine in two systems: PPS (Pay Per Share) and Solo. In both you submit valid shares, but the difference is when and how you receive the reward.
In short: PPS gives steadier payouts, while Solo brings a larger reward but less often.
What is a share and what is a round?
- A share is a valid solution that shows the miner is working and trying to solve the task. Each share has a difficulty — a number that shows how much work is behind it. The pool sums the difficulty of all your shares in the round — those are your hashes for this round.
- A round is the time period between finding two blocks.
PPS: you share the reward by shares
When the pool finds a block, the reward is distributed among all active miners according to the sum of their share difficulties for the round. The formula is simple: your hashes / all hashes in the pool for the round.
- Example: 100 shares with difficulty 1 give 1*100=100 hashes, and 10 shares with difficulty 10 give 10*10=100 hashes — the contribution is equal.
- That’s why not only the number of shares matters, but also the difficulty of each share.
Solo: the reward is yours if you find the block
With Solo you mine on your own. Only your valid shares count. If you are the one who finds the block, you receive the entire reward. If the block is found by another miner, you receive no reward.
Examples
-
Miner 1 submits 2 shares:
- share1 with difficulty 100
- share2 with difficulty 150
Total contribution == 250 hashes -
Miner 2 submits 3 shares:
- share with difficulty 120
- share with difficulty 110
- share with difficulty 120
Total contribution == 350 hashes
- If you find the block, you receive the full reward; but if you don’t find a block, there is no reward.
Which should you choose?
PPS is more suitable for a smaller hashrate and for people who prefer steadier payouts. Solo is for miners with a larger hashrate or those who accept more variance for a chance at a larger reward.
If you’re unsure, start with PPS and move to Solo when you want to test your luck.
Good luck!
